Start with what matters to your family

A multi-day celebration is full of moments that don’t fit neatly into a schedule. Before deciding where portraits belong, talk through the rituals, the family relationships and the gatherings you most want to remember.

Share the order of events with your photographer, including moments that are specific to your family. Indian, Sikh, Hindu and Punjabi weddings are not interchangeable; the details of your own celebration should lead the plan.

Create room around transitions

Travel, outfit changes and moving a large family between spaces can take longer than expected. Give these transitions breathing room. That space makes it easier to be present and gives your photographer the freedom to notice what is happening around the edges.

Keep portraits intentional

Choose a focused portrait window with a location and a backup in mind. A short list of essential family groupings, shared with someone who knows the people involved, can keep formal photographs comfortable and efficient.

The goal is not to remove spontaneity. It is to do enough planning that you can let go of it when the day arrives.
